What techniques do your chosen texts use to effectively target and maximise their online audience? 30 marks.

 Zoella's social media and website and Attitude magazine website both effectively target their online audiences. One way this is shown is by Zoellas use of her social media using media platforms such as instagram and twitter actively, she encourages her audience to interact with her such as retweeting or commenting on her old youtube videos. attitude magazine uses a simple black and white colour palette through out the website. with many of the articles featuring gay men such as former olympian Colin Jackson clearly aiming at the older audiences. 

In addition, both Zoella and Attitudes attract audiences through contrasting ideas. Zoella, being a well renowned YouTuber (11.1 million subscribers) uses traditional camera techniques such as close up to medium shots of her face. this is done to show that the video is based around her and creates a interpersonal relationship with her audience while at the same time creating this persona and almost uses it as a USP as other youtubers followed in the camera techniques. she strengthens her relationship with her audience by recording her day-to-day life and posting them as vlogs giving insight for her audience. this will make them feel more connected. through zoellas early years of youtube her audience was clearly centred towards a younger female audience as most of her videos were based off make-up tutorials and fashion hauls.the main colour scheme of her thumbnails mainly consisted of pastel blue and pink which usually entices the younger female demographic. She usually uses bright coloured lipstick. this is most likely used to show a snapshot of a product she might be reviewing. On the contrary, Attitude draws in an audience that differs from Zoella. compared to Zoella they target a more older and male audience and homosexuals who may identify themselves with the other articles that the online magazine offers that feature gay males. One way they maximise the audience is through the banner on the top of the page which promotes their 'best ever' subscription which is then coupled with the phrase 'take advantage' conveying to the audience that it would be in their best interests to subscribe to the magazine its also been smartly placed in the top left of the page as eyes travel from top left to bottom right of the p. Attitude covers many different subjects many of which are becoming more spoken about in society today such as sexuality and gender. Examples of this would be 'NETFLIX announce gay Christmas romcom' and from this we can see that Attitudes demographic can become clear that it also focuses on open minded people. However with Attitude there's no clear genre as it covers many different stories and can be seen as a socialist magazine. The layout of Attitude has more of a tabloid layout with larger bolder fonts and a simple colour scheme of black and white. indicating that it talks about 'real life' situations and 'real' news. Further evidence for Attitude to maximise the demographic audience is the use of images and articles used. they present gay people in a positive manner on breakthroughs of gay people who may of made a difference. However also use images of muscular men. almost portraying them as heroes ultimately succeeding in audience engagement; although this may be seen as a positive outlook and men will identify themselves with it as well as escapism as its a place where all people are accepted for being gay as todays opinion on gays in society is still changing and still working on making it a social norm. The images reinforces stereotypes that men have to be muscular to be heroic. 

Both texts most use multiple techniques to increase engagement and maximise their audience. for example Zoella's website has links to its other social media outlets and also encourages to subscribe to get all the latest news and updates on her, she also has a comment section on her youtube so they can interact. Similarly Attitude encourages it audience to share news articles. However what sets them apart is that Zoella is open to job applications when needed allowing her audience to have the chance to work for her. A way attitude also maximise their audience by using specific fonts and punctuation to try 'sell' the story. they do this by using sans serif font and in all capital letters. this technique makes every story look important and interesting and makes it more likely for the audience to click on it. This is a usual marketing technique used however is mostly seen in youtube and isnt seen as much on other online magazines so it can be seen as unconventional for an online magazine. it does also shows high end advertisemnts such as the NHS. this represents that Attitude is a highly viewed magazine most likely aiming towards the demographic of ABC or upper to middle class. this also shown as they advertise a print subscription which is more aimed towards an older audience. they also target their audience through articles on current social injustices. this allows them to increase reputation from new readers who seek social awareness such as 'drag queen on a mission to save the planet'. Comparably, Zoella also targets an older audience. This is noticeable through her change of content as shes grown older. A younger Zoella would promote make up and fashion hauls whereas now spreads light onto sex toys and pleasure in bed as she seems to have grown up with her audience however still targets a female audience.

To conclude both Zoella and Attitude use multiple techniques to maximise their audience and engagement with their audience by creating content and using multiple methods to meet the demands of the demographic.
