horror films in the 1950-60s

Frankestein-Hammer

the stage name 'hammer' came from the directors hometown of Hammersmith.
He became bankrupt and started loaning out his facilities.
then made a drastic action and made a remake of a BBC film making it X rated.
when remaking the Frankestein he made it personal and unique. didn't copy the original
film was in a colour. this was rare and really intensifies the X-rated horror.
in the 4th frankestein film women were seen as emotionally unstable and deceiving. this is shown as a girl gets mocked and humiliated by male characters leading to her suicide. as she gets brought to life frankenstein makes her stereotypically beautiful(blonde hair blue eyes) and uses her beauty to lure in males. she then easily manipulated to kill frankestein.

Dracula
Draculas were first misinterpretated for diseases such as rabies.
word 'vampire' started off in areas around Russia and Austria
people had a belief that people came back from the dead because of the side effects of decomposition. (blood coming out the mouth. looks fresh). after this usual burial traditions consisted of putting garlic of the dead body or poppy seeds.
as the 'vampire' inspired imagination spread through to the west of Europe it inspired novels.
inspired an Irish writer to write 'Dracula'.
Bela Lugosi had an inspired performance on broadway.
