zoella
- Firstly zoellas audience fit the graphic of young (majority)
females. When Zoella was so called ‘in trend’ she had a very loyal fan base.
They were also part of an online active community. One of the prime
examples of this is when she released her debut novel. Which ended up
becoming the fastest selling debut novel of all time even surpassing harry
potter. She also had an active audience as she amassed millions of
followers very quickly. They become active media content producers when
they start making fan pages, imitating her make up or YouTube videos or
even her personality. This can refer back to David Gauntletts theory of identification that the idea that the media provide us with ‘tools’ or resources
that we use to construct our identities. To normal people some may believe
that she has a close relationship with her fans. however I do think that
she has a close relationship with her fans she also had parasocial
interactions with them. She was always open about her problems and
struggles in her normal life she didn’t really communicate on a one to one
basis. Examples could be retweeting someones tweet or perhaps sending out
a personal message. To me it just seemed as if it was all for business. She
also decided to abandon her YouTube channel leaving a lot of loyal fans
upset with someone they idolized for so long especially people of the lgbt community as she was a strong advocat in trying to stop lgbt members from comitting suicide.
