The times is a daily national newspaper based in London. it was first founded in 1785 with the name 'the daily universal register'. its sister newspaper is the 'Sunday times'. currently owned by News UK and has a circulation of 359,000. as of 2009 the times has the highest ABC1 24-44 readers in London. 

Political bias

both the The Times and Sunday Times both support the Conservative party. Which is right-wing.


The Mirror:

The Mirror is a daily national tabloid newspaper founded in 1903. its owned by parent company 'Reach PLC'. its a red top newspaper with a circulation of 567,000 as of 2018.

the mirror is more of a centrally based political stance however does edge to left-wing

A. most newspapers have now moved online due to technological advancements such as being on your phone or the computer. most newspapers charge a subscription fee. however with the mirror the website is free and has links to their other social media outlets such as twitter and facebook. its provides content on coronavirus, politics and celebs.


Q. what political agender or bias do they hold? 

A. firstly Liverpool Echo is left-wing and considered one of the most left-wing cities in the UK. evidence of this would be the analysis of ten of millions of votes of either conservative and labour since 1983 has shown that Liverpool is the second most left-wing city in the UK after Glasgow with a score of 60. secondly Manchester evening news is also a left-wing newspaper. further evidence of this shows that Manchester is the 4th most left-wing city in the UK.  


Q. Who is the intended readership (audience) for the Daily Mirror?

A. the main demographic audience for the Daily Mirror is ABC1 adults who are over the age of 35. despite it being a national newspaper a small fraction of its audience is based in London. statistically women read the newspaper more than men do. around half of those adults 35+ also have children within the household.

analysis of media text Quality street 1956 This quality street advert was published in 1956. Obviously, this time was a lot different to how it is now. In 1956 women were viewed as almost materialistic items or even a possession rather than a human. Women were stereotypically seen as cleaners or just used for sexual pleasure. How do media producers meet the needs of specialised audiences? Refer to water aid.

 The water aid advert is made to encourage audiences to the cause. with Claudia the main protagonist centred around the advert. With Claudia being a female she immediately subverts the stereotype of men being the 'provider' and Van Zoonen's theory and contributes to social change by representing women in non-traditional roles. In December 2016 the video had been viewed around 47,000 times and highly encourages the use of social media to share the advert round. showing that their target audience is literate with new technology. further evidence of this is shown through the imperative 'TEXT SUNNY TO 70555'.  The use of the 90s song 'Sunshine on a rainy day' also connotes that the target audience are around 30-40 year olds and gain nostalgic pleasure through the song. the opening medium shot with the radio and the rain hitting it against the window represents modern British setting. further shown in the audio codes of the accent heard from the radio. people fro...

  Firstly zoellas audience fit the graphic of young (majority) females. When Zoella was so called ‘in trend’ she had a very loyal fan base. They were also part of an online active community. One of the prime examples of this is when she released her debut novel. Which ended up becoming the fastest selling debut novel of all time even surpassing harry potter. She also had an active audience as she amassed millions of followers very quickly. They become active media content producers when they start making fan pages, imitating her make up or YouTube videos or even her personality. This can refer back to David Gauntletts theory of identification that the idea that the media provide us with ‘tools’ or resources that we use to construct our identities.
